Door Canopies for Corners
Taking the made-to-measure concept to a different level
Although many of our customers select to have one of our all-metal door canopies from our standard range, recently more and more customers have asked us to create bespoke versions of them. This blog concentrates on bespoke door canopies for corners, specifically designed and made by ZAC to fit into corner spaces.
Before I move on to our bespoke corner canopies, I’ll just give you a quick reminder of our standard canopy designs. With handmade frames made from mild steel and either zinc or copper cladding, we have a wide selection of canopies in our range. From the simple flat Cotswold canopies to the complex mix of convex and concave curves on our Belgravia canopies, all of our standard ranges are normally built with a symmetrical design. Whether made with curved end panels, simple beading or finished off with fleur-de-lis end caps, the canopies are finished with the perfect balance.
Below is a photograph of one of our Belgravia Classic canopies clad with antra zinc fitted above the archway of the main entrance to this house. You will see that the sides of the canopy are curved, and each corner has matching fleur-de-lis end caps. This style of canopy is perfect for doorways that have plenty of room either side of the door.
Of course, not all doorways are built the same way! This means that we have to sometimes think outside the box when designing our canopies.
Below is an example of where our design team had to work with the customer to come up with a bespoke solution. The customer in question loved the style of the Parisian, but their doorway was set back from the front of the house and was located next to a flank wall. Our solution was to design a bespoke version of the Parisian that could be abutted into the internal corner. The lefthand side had to be tapered, as the wall was not square, and we finished it off with our continental drip flashing.
The next bespoke corner canopy is based on one of our Belgravia canopies. In this case, the doorway had a flank wall to its right. Our solution was to create a Belgravia canopy that only had the standard curved panels on the left-hand side. The right-hand side was finished so that it could be abutted into the flank wall to its right. You will see that the beading on the canopy has also been made differently to take the wall into account.
Based on our Cotswold canopy, the below image shows another example of a bespoke corner canopy, made to fit the aperture between the doorway and the flank wall to its left. The canopy was finished with an upstand on the lefthand side rather than the standard beading.
Along with the various canopies mentioned above, we have made many other canopies for doorways in small and awkward spaces. Please read our “Working with Small and Awkward Spaces” blog for more details on this.
