The Planning Process
To help our customers understand the planning process and the regulations to consider for new porches, we launched a new campaign in conjunction with the Planning Portal (run by a government body). Their website contains tools and guides that help people understand the regulations regarding planning and building. Importantly, it helps identify if these are required before you go to the trouble of creating an application.
At a more detailed level, the Planning Portal has a specified area on its website regarding porches and door canopies. Generally, planning permissions would not be required unless it falls within specific criteria, this includes if it is a listed building or on designated land. To help you identify whether you will need it, it is well worth taking a look at their site. We also advise contacting your local planning department for specific advice if unsure.
Permitted development rights allow householders to improve and extend their homes without the need to apply for planning permission where that would be out of proportion with the impact of works carried out.
ZAC has designed a Heritage range of canopies and porches specifically for properties or developments within conservation areas of a sensitive or historical nature.
